American Open Currency Standard – AOCS Overview
American Open Currency Standard – AOCS, Frisco, TX, was the bullion issuing, marketing, and distribution brand of the American Open Currency Standard (AOCS). Founded by Robert J. “Bobby” Gray in 2008, AOCS promoted the voluntary use of gold, silver, and copper as honest money through a nationwide network of merchants, dealers, and affiliated currency programs.
Through AOCS Mint, the organization developed bullion products, coordinated custom minting projects, and distributed precious-metals products through dealer networks. Current research found no evidence that AOCS Mint initially operated its own minting facility. Instead, production was contracted to established private mints, with documented manufacturing by North American Mint, Rochester NY (and others), prior to 2012 and Mulligan Mint, Dallas TX. beginning in 2012.

AOCS History
The American Open Currency Standard (AOCS) was established in 2008 by Rob Gray to promote the voluntary use of precious metals in commerce. Rather than creating a single private currency, AOCS encouraged the development of independently administered bullion-based exchange systems operating under shared principles of voluntary trade and sound money.
To support these activities, Gray established AOCS Mint as the organization’s bullion brand. Operating from Frisco, Texas, AOCS Mint coordinated product development, issuance, marketing, dealer relationships, and distribution while utilizing contract manufacturers for production.
Archived AOCS materials identify North American Mint of Rochester, New York, as an early manufacturing partner. As the organization expanded, AOCS became associated with numerous bullion and alternative-currency initiatives, including projects connected with the Republic of Texas, Lakota Nation, and other precious-metals-based monetary systems.
By approximately 2010, AOCS reported participation from more than twenty affiliated currency programs throughout the United States, each operating independently while sharing the organization’s philosophy of voluntary exchange and sound money.
In 2012, Rob Gray and Phil Pozderac established Mulligan Mint in the Dallas area. The new operation provided manufacturing capabilities for many AOCS-affiliated products and reduced the organization’s reliance on third-party manufacturers.
Following the closure of Mulligan Mint in 2014, Gray relocated his business activities to Southeast Asia. Later bullion products were marketed under the Blockchain Mint Brand, while AOCS continued as one of the organizations within the Honest Money Ecosystem.
The “AOCS Mint”
Bullion products were issued and distributed under the AOCS Mint brand, which coordinated manufacturing through a succession of contract partners — including North American Mint and Mulligan Mint — rather than operating its own facility. See the AOCS Mint page for the full production timeline and manufacturing history.

AOCS Notes
Current evidence distinguishes the American Open Currency Standard and AOCS Mint as separate but related entities. AOCS served as the parent organization responsible for developing the alternative-currency network and its underlying philosophy, while AOCS Mint functioned as the organization’s bullion issuing, marketing, and distribution brand.
Research has documented manufacturing relationships with North American Mint prior to 2012 and Mulligan Mint beginning in 2012. Additional manufacturing partners may be identified through issue-specific research.
The Honest.money website identifies AOCS as one of the organizations within the Honest.money ecosystem, established in 2008 alongside later initiatives including Blockchain Mint and TEXITcoin. This reflects the continuing evolution of Robert J. “Bobby” Gray’s organizations rather than a continuation of AOCS Mint itself.
