The obverse features the Great Seal of the Confederate States of America centered within a ring of inscriptions commemorating major Civil War battles. Surrounding the seal are the names Chickamauga, Shiloh, Vicksburg, Bull Run, Antietam, Gettysburg, and Appomattox, together with the dates 1861–1865. The Confederate Great Seal depicts the equestrian statue of George Washington surrounded by an agricultural wreath and bears the motto DEO VINDICE and the historic date 22 February 1862, commemorating Jefferson Davis's inauguration as President of the permanent Confederate government.

The reverse depicts the Confederate battle flag above the denomination FIFTY. Below are the inscriptions ONE TROY OUNCE .999 FINE SILVER, WWW.DIXIEDOLLAR.ORG, and AOCS APPROVED • ©2009 JMD. The design identifies the round as an official issue of the Dixie Dollar private currency program and associates it with the American Open Currency Standard.

2009 Dixie Dollar Civil War Commemorative Overview
The 2009 Dixie Dollar Civil War Commemorative is a privately issued one-ounce .999 fine silver round produced as part of the Dixie Dollar alternative currency program. Issued during the Liberty Dollar movement, the round was intended for voluntary barter and was promoted as a regional private currency for the South. The reverse bears the denomination FIFTY, the program website www.DixieDollar.org, and the inscription AOCS Approved, identifying the piece as part of the American Open Currency Standard (AOCS) network. The copyright attribution ©2009 JMD is believed to identify the program’s copyright holder, likely Joshua M. Deatherage of Cabool, Missouri, who operated the Dixie Dollar program. The manufacturer has not been conclusively identified.
2009 Dixie Dollar Civil War Commemorative Notes
The Dixie Dollar was introduced in 2009 as a regional private silver and gold currency intended to circulate through voluntary barter. The program described its pieces as “Liberty Dollar compatible”, allowing them to circulate among merchants participating in the broader Liberty Dollar network while remaining an independent program. Archived DixieDollar.org materials identify the currency as a private monetary system for the South and explicitly state that it was not affiliated with the Liberty Dollar organization despite using compatible weight standards and merchant concepts.
The initials JMD appearing in the copyright attribution are believed to identify Joshua M. Deatherage, whose contact information and telephone number were published on the Dixie Dollar website. The inscription AOCS Approved denotes participation in the American Open Currency Standard network and should not be interpreted as a mint attribution.
