The obverse depicts a stylized "D" rendered over a dense circuit-board / motherboard background, with money-sign-style flourishes extending from the top and bottom of the letter — a deliberate visual echo of the Bitcoin logo, repurposed here to represent "decentralization" rather than the cryptocurrency itself. The date "2014" is inscribed within the design. Arcing around the upper and side edges is the legend "COMMUNITY BANKS & CRYPTOCURRENCIES RENDER CENTRAL BANKS OBSOLETE," while "DECENTRALIZED CURRENCY EVOLUTION" runs along the bottom edge.

The reverse carries the standard Silver Bullet Silver Shield crest used across the series: a central shield flanked by two outstretched wings and a ring of 47 silver bullets, representing silver's atomic number. "SILVER BULLET SILVER SHIELD" arcs along the outer edge above the wings, with "1 OZ" inscribed above the shield itself. A center medallion within the shield reads "LISTEN TO ALL" above and "FOLLOW NONE" below, encircling the inscriptions ".999 FINE AG," "2014," and "AOCS APPROVED." The phrase "A CONSCIOUS SOLUTION" appears above the shield and continues as "TO COLLECTIVIST PROBLEMS" below it.
The "AOCS APPROVED" reverse inscription is direct primary evidence on the documented physical example, placing this round in the AOCS collection alongside its SBSS series membership. Manufacturer is a separate, still-open question: attributed to Golden State Mint based on the series' documented 2014 transition from Mulligan Mint (Dallas, TX), but the round's own date sits at the exact handoff point and has not been independently confirmed to one mint via production records. Designer/engraver, mintage quantity, and physical specs (diameter, thickness, edge) are pending further research and caliper measurement of the owned example.
Extremely high liquidity, especially at launch in 2014; a 2018-2020 gap keeps the availability tag Red despite the strongest sales/yr rate seen in this project so far.

2014 Decentralized Currency SBSS Silver Round Overview
The 2014 Decentralized Currency SBSS Silver Round is a 1 oz .999 fine silver issue from the Silver Bullet Silver Shield (SBSS) series. SBSS launched in September 2012 as a partnership between Chris Duane and Rob Gray, founder of the American Open Currency Standard (AOCS), following Duane’s congressional testimony on community currencies that year. This particular issue applies the series’ framework to the cryptocurrency debate then unfolding within the hard-money community: 2014 sat in the aftermath of Bitcoin’s 2013 price surge and the Mt. Gox collapse, a period when the sound-money movement was actively arguing over whether digital currency was an ally of — or a threat to — physical precious metals as “honest money.”
The round’s Bitcoin-styled “D” obverse and its “Community Banks & Cryptocurrencies Render Central Banks Obsolete” legend stake out a position in that argument: framing decentralized cryptocurrency and decentralized metal-backed currency as complementary tools against centralized banking, rather than competitors. The reverse carries the series’ standard crest design and “Listen To All, Follow None” motto.
The series has a documented Texas origin. Its earliest releases were produced through Mulligan Mint of Dallas, Texas, Gray’s mint, founded in 2012. Mulligan Mint filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September 2013, and the Gray/Duane partnership subsequently dissolved. The SBSS name and AOCS Approved branding stayed with Gray, who relaunched the program independently in 2014 under AOCS’s own domain infrastructure (opencurrency.com), marketing new releases — including this round — as “The ARISE Collection.” Chris Duane did not retain the SBSS name; his separate, post-split work is issued under the unrelated Silver Shield brand and carries no AOCS affiliation. This round’s “AOCS APPROVED” and “SILVER BULLET SILVER SHIELD” branding place it on Gray’s side of that split, not Duane’s — see the AOCS Mint page for the fuller history.
2014 Decentralized Currency SBSS Silver Round Attribution
The round carries the “AOCS APPROVED” and “SILVER BULLET SILVER SHIELD” inscriptions directly on the reverse, examined on the documented physical example — direct primary evidence placing this issue with the continuing AOCS/SBSS operation under Rob Gray, following the 2013–2014 partnership split with Chris Duane. Contemporaneous sources support this: a Silver Stackers forum thread from September 2014 documents that, following the split, Gray’s silverbulletsilvershield.com was selling SBSS-branded designs while Duane sold separately under “Silver Shield,” and a 2014 capture of silverbulletsilvershield.com lists this round under “The ARISE Collection,” operating “in association with the Open Currency Standard” per its own copyright notice.
Manufacturing attribution remains unresolved. Mulligan Mint, the original SBSS/AOCS manufacturing partner, filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September 2013; this was a reorganization filing, not an immediate closure, and litigation over the estate continued at least through August 2014, so the exact date physical production stopped (if it did) is not independently confirmed. Golden State Mint, sometimes assumed as a successor, is documented instead as the manufacturing partner for Chris Duane’s separate, post-split Silver Shield line — not for continuing SBSS/AOCS output — so it should not be assumed as this round’s manufacturer. No contemporary source yet identifies who physically struck 2014 ARISE Collection issues. This entry follows the site’s Unknown Contract Mint convention (see AOCS Mint) pending further documentation.
2014 Decentralized Currency SBSS Silver Round Notes
- This round is also encountered in some listings as “Digital Currency”; “Decentralized” is the name used in dealer listings (e.g., Amagi Metals) and reflects common usage, so this entry follows that convention.
- The reverse crest, wing, and 47-bullet design is standard across the SBSS series for this era and is not unique to this issue.
- This round belongs to “The ARISE Collection,” the 2014 relaunch line issued under Rob Gray following the Gray/Duane partnership split — not to Chris Duane’s separate, unrelated “Silver Shield” brand.
- Mintage figures for this specific issue have not yet been located.
- Diameter, thickness, and edge type are pending caliper measurement of the physical example.
- This issue was released in multiple strike types: Brilliant Uncirculated (BU), Proof, and Copper; this entry documents the BU silver strike unless otherwise specified.
