Overview

The 1989 State of Texas 1 oz Silver Round (No Mint Mark) is part of the long-running Texas bullion series produced between 1986 and 1991. The round features the familiar Texas-themed design pairing used throughout the series, consisting of the reverse of the official State Seal of Texas on the obverse and the State Seal of Texas on the reverse.

Unlike the 1989 P-marked variety, this issue was struck without a visible mint mark. The existence of both P-marked and no-mint-mark examples dated 1989 demonstrates that multiple varieties were produced during the same year.

Historical Context

By 1989, the Texas bullion series had evolved beyond its origins during the Texas Sesquicentennial period. While retaining the same core design elements introduced earlier in the series, annual dated issues continued to be produced with varying mint marks and, in some cases, no mint mark at all.

The 1989 no-mint-mark issue represents one of several known varieties within the broader 1986–1991 series and reflects the continued production of Texas-themed bullion rounds after the state’s sesquicentennial celebrations had concluded.
