2010 Free Lakota Bank Copper Round Overview

The 2010 Lakota Copper Round is the copper companion to the Free Lakota Bank silver rounds of the same year, and it is the piece that anchors 2010 across both metals in the series. Where the 2010 silver was denominated “FIFTY,” the copper carries the denomination “TWO,” reflecting the bank’s ounce-based exchange scale rather than any dollar value. Both the denomination and the “AOCS APPROVED · ©2010” legend are struck into the reverse, which places this round squarely inside the AOCS Collection on a mark basis.

The obverse continues the portrait that defines the series: a frontal bust of Crazy Horse (Tȟašúŋke Witkó), the Oglala Lakota war leader, wearing a single upright feather and a beaded, bone-choker shirt, framed by a radiating halo of feather-like rays. “LAKOTA” arcs across the top of the field and the date “2010” sits at the left, just above the shoulder — and that date is the detail that matters for this entry, because a second copper obverse without the date is reported (see Alternate Obverse below).

The example documented in this entry is the dated variety.
