1982 Cercone Inc. Silver Trade Unit Overview
The 1982 Cercone Inc. Silver Trade Unit is a one-ounce .999 fine silver round struck for Cercone, Inc., a Dallas family corporation chartered in 1976. It was produced by Dallas Specialty Mint, Inc., whose DSM mark appears beneath the Cercone logo on the obverse.
The obverse was made for the client, with Cercone’s stylized “C” logo and the company’s name and city. The reverse is a stock Dallas Specialty Mint design: a balance scale weighing silver rounds against calibration weights, with the weight, fineness and “SILVER TRADE UNIT” legends. The same reverse appears on the Amerock Silver Trade Unit. That points to the mint pairing one standard reverse with a custom logo obverse for each corporate customer.
Only one sale of the 1982 Cercone Inc. Silver Trade Unit has been documented. No original packaging, invoice or mintage record has surfaced.
1982 Cercone Inc. Silver Trade Unit Attribution
The DSM mint mark identifies Dallas Specialty Mint as the manufacturer. The shared reverse on the DSM-marked Amerock unit places both rounds in the same die program.
The 1982 date is an attribution. No dated sales literature or order record has been found. Dallas Specialty Mint operated from its incorporation on June 3, 1981, until it forfeited its right to do business on September 16, 1984, and the round had to be struck in that window. 1982 is used pending contemporary documentation of an exact release date.
