Official U.S. Mint Commemorative Medal
Overview
The 1968 HemisFair Bronze 250th Anniversary of San Antonio Texas medal was issued in connection with HemisFair ’68, the official World’s Fair held in San Antonio. Struck to commemorate the city’s 250th anniversary, the medal reflects both the international scope of the exposition and the regional pride surrounding Texas history during the mid-twentieth century.
These medals represent one of the most important Texas-related U.S. Mint medal issues of the 20th century.
Historical Significance
HemisFair ’68 permanently reshaped downtown San Antonio and left lasting landmarks such as the Tower of the Americas and modern Hemisfair Park. These medals serve as tangible artifacts of Texas’ only officially recognized World’s Fair.
