The obverse depicts a heraldic eagle adapted from an early United States half dollar of the 1830s. The eagle bears a shield incorporating the Confederate "Stars and Bars" flag with the initials CSA above. Around the upper rim appears the Biblical inscription "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord" (Psalm 33:12), while thirteen stars symbolize the eleven Confederate states together with Kentucky and Missouri. The lower inscriptions include anno Domini, the date 2002, and the denomination ONE CONFEDERATE DOLLAR. The fields also display ONE TROY OUNCE and .999 FINE SILVER.

The reverse reproduces the Great Seal of the Confederate States of America, depicting George Washington on horseback within an agricultural wreath representing the South's principal crops: corn, wheat, tobacco, sugar cane, rice, and cotton. Surrounding inscriptions read THE CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA, 22 FEBRUARY 1862, and the Confederate national motto DEO VINDICE ("God Will Vindicate"). The date commemorates both George Washington's birthday and the adoption of the Confederate Constitution.

2002 Confederate Silver Dollar Overview

The 2002 Confederate Silver Dollar is a privately issued one-ounce .999 fine silver round created to commemorate the Confederate States of America through an original bullion design rather than as a reproduction of an historic coin. The piece was designed by Henri Klingler of Jesup, Georgia, a descendant of Confederate cavalry officer John Singleton Mosby, known as “The Grey Ghost”, and was marketed through the Silver Dollar Gift Store on the DixieRising.com website. The round features an original Confederate eagle design on the obverse and the historic Great Seal of the Confederate States of America on the reverse. Although later dealer listings commonly attribute manufacture to Northwest Territorial Mint, no surviving period-original documentation has been located confirming the manufacturer.

2002 Confederate Silver Dollar Notes

The Confederate Silver Dollar was offered for sale through the Silver Dollar Gift Store on the DixieRising.com website beginning in April 2003, with an advertised retail price of $20.00 each or $18.00 each in quantities of five or more. An archived Wayback Machine capture dated March 8, 2005, preserves both the original product photographs and descriptive text, providing primary-source documentation for the coin’s design, symbolism, and marketing. Independent numismatic research identifies the unnamed designer described in the original advertisement as Henri Klingler of Jesup, Georgia.

Although the reverse design closely resembles that used on later Confederate-themed private issues, no evidence currently demonstrates that those pieces share a common die or were issued as part of the same program.
