Provident Metals Overview
Provident Metals LLC was a Dallas-based precious metals retailer, bullion distributor, issuer, and product developer founded in 2009 by Joe Merrick. The company became one of the largest online bullion dealers in the United States through its extensive catalog of investment-grade precious metals and a successful portfolio of proprietary bullion products, including Zombucks, Provident Prospector, Egyptian Gods, and numerous exclusive silver and copper issues.
During the mid-2010s, Provident marketed products under the “Provident Mint” name while closely integrated with the broader NTR Metals / Elemetal organization. Current research confirms that Provident Mint was a marketing label rather than a separate legal mint entity — output bearing the name was produced at NTR Metals’ existing facility at 2710 Electronic Lane, Dallas, using equipment acquired from the 2014 Mulligan Mint bankruptcy sale. Provident’s retail business continued after the manufacturing-facing use of the name ended, and today operates as part of the JM Bullion and A-Mark Precious Metals organization.

Provident Metals Corporate History
Joe Merrick incorporated Provident Precious Metals, LLC in Texas in 2009 as an online retailer specializing in investment-grade precious metals. The company quickly established itself through competitive pricing, broad product selection, and exclusive bullion programs developed specifically for the Provident brand.
A significant change occurred in 2014 when NTR Metals, Dallas TX (also known as North Texas Refining) acquired substantially all of the manufacturing assets of Dallas-based Mulligan Mint through bankruptcy proceedings, including presses and associated equipment relocated to NTR’s existing facility at 2710 Electronic Lane, Dallas. Shortly afterward, Provident began marketing products under the “Provident Mint” name — a label rather than a separate operating entity — for output produced at that facility. The timing suggests that Provident became the retail-facing brand for NTR’s expanding manufacturing operation while NTR continued to provide refining, manufacturing, and wholesale infrastructure. During this period, Provident publicly described Elemetal Precious Metals, Dallas TX as a collaboration between Ohio Precious Metals, NTR Metals, and Provident Metals, illustrating that Provident was operating as an integrated part of the broader Elemetal organization rather than as an unrelated retail dealer.
As NTR reorganized its businesses under the Elemetal brand, the Provident Mint identity gradually gave way to Elemetal Mint as the public manufacturing identity. Provident itself remained focused on retail sales, product development, and proprietary bullion programs.
In September 2017, Provident Precious Metals was acquired by Private Metals Company, LLC. Texas corporate records identify the acquisition entity as operating from Dillon Gage’s Addison, Texas headquarters and managed by Dillon Gage executives Jon E. Christiansen and Terence F. Hanlon. Simultaneously, Provident announced that Dillon Gage would assume inventory management and fulfillment operations.
In August 2019, Private Metals Company transferred Provident to JM Bullion, which reorganized the business as Provident Metals Corp. In March 2021, A-Mark Precious Metals acquired the remaining ownership interest in JM Bullion, making Provident one of several consumer-facing bullion brands within the A-Mark portfolio.
While Provident’s retail business later passed through Private Metals Company, LLC, JM Bullion, and ultimately A-Mark Precious Metals, the manufacturing operation followed a separate path within the evolving NTR / Elemetal organization.
Provident Mint (a marketing name, not a separate legal entity)
The “Provident Mint” name appeared following NTR Metals’ 2014 acquisition of substantially all of Mulligan Mint’s manufacturing assets through bankruptcy proceedings. Research confirms “Provident Mint” was never registered as a separate business entity — it was a marketing label applied to bullion manufactured at NTR’s existing Dallas facility.
2012–2013 Mulligan Mint operated as an independent Dallas-based private mint producing bullion products, custom minting, and alternative-currency issues.
September 2013 through March 2014 Mulligan Mint filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy but continued operating during the proceedings. A documented Bill of Sale shows presses and associated manufacturing equipment acquired by NTR Metals, with minting dies separately acquired by SBSS; the mint’s leased premises at 13835 Welch Road, Farmers Branch, were not part of the sale.
2014 NTR Metals relocated the acquired equipment to its existing facility at 2710 Electronic Lane, Dallas, integrating the operation into its expanding precious metals organization.
2014–2016 “Provident Mint” emerged as the marketing name for Provident-branded bullion manufactured at NTR’s Electronic Lane facility. Additional research is ongoing to determine the precise date range and product scope.
2015 through 2016 and later As NTR Metals reorganized its businesses under the Elemetal brand, the “Provident Mint” name gave way to Elemetal Mint as the facility’s public manufacturing identity; the same site operates today as Cutsaw Mint.
While Provident’s retail business later passed through Private Metals Company, LLC, JM Bullion, and ultimately A-Mark Precious Metals, the manufacturing operation followed a separate path within the evolving NTR / Elemetal organization.

Provident Metals Attribution
Provident Metals should primarily be recognized as a retailer, distributor, issuer, and product developer rather than as an independent private mint.
For products specifically marketed under the “Provident Mint” name, current evidence supports attributing manufacturing to NTR Metals’ Electronic Lane facility rather than to a distinct mint entity. Additional research may further refine product-specific dating within the 2014–2016 window.
