Overview

The 1981 National Dallas 1 Ounce Silver Bar is a privately issued bullion bar issued by National Dallas, a Dallas-area precious metals company active during the early 1980s. Struck in one troy ounce of .999 fine silver, the bar features the company’s boxed National Dallas hallmark, a Certified Assay designation, and an individual serial number. The reverse was intended for personalization and was engraved with the recipient’s name, making each example a unique presentation piece.

The bar represents one of the earliest documented National Dallas silver products and provides evidence of the company’s participation in the North Texas bullion market during the period.

Historical Context

During the late 1970s and early 1980s, numerous private bullion firms emerged throughout Texas in response to rising precious metals demand and historically high silver prices. Dallas became a regional center for bullion production, refining, and distribution, supporting both investment products and custom silver programs.

National Dallas marketed serialized silver bars bearing its own hallmark and assay designation. Surviving examples suggest the company offered personalized presentation bars, likely intended as gifts, awards, promotional pieces, or customer appreciation items. The use of individual engraving and serialization reflects a business model extending beyond standard investment bullion.

Notes

National Dallas is also known from serialized silver bars, larger-format bullion bars, and Texas-themed silver rounds bearing the name The National Mint Dallas. The relationship between National Dallas and other Dallas-area bullion manufacturers remains under investigation.

The personalized reverse engraving suggests that National Dallas offered custom presentation services in addition to standard bullion sales.

Currently evidence point to these being minted in-house by National Dallas.
