Royalty Coins Overview

Royalty Coins San Antonio TX issuer history begins with a River Walk coin shop. Royalty Coins is a rare coin, bullion, and jewelry dealer on East Commerce Street in downtown San Antonio, three blocks from the Alamo, serving San Antonio and South Texas collectors since 1977. The shop was founded and owned by Jack Copeland. It occupies the street level of a curved limestone corner building, and its River Walk balcony carries the name of R.H.H. Hugman, the architect who designed the River Walk.

The location shaped the business. Royalty Coins serves two markets at once: local collectors buying and selling U.S. rare coins, bullion, and Texana, and the steady stream of visitors walking between the River Walk and the Alamo. That second audience gave the shop a reason to put its own city on silver.

In 1991, Royalty Coins became an issuer, commissioning a Texas and San Antonio themed silver round of its own design. Production went to Silvertowne, a private mint owned by Leon Hendrickson. Royalty Coins worked through the design with Silvertowne at the sample stage, approving or sending back each die before production began, then sold the finished rounds over its own counter. The original sample strikes from that process remain with the shop today.

The round carries no issuer name or mint mark, which left its origin undocumented for decades. The attribution comes from the issuer, confirmed in person by Richard and David at the shop, with the sample strikes in hand.
