2015 Cash For Gold Jewelers Guns Up America Silver Round Overview

The 2015 Cash For Gold Jewelers Guns Up America Silver Round is a one troy ounce .999 fine silver round issued by Cash For Gold Jewelers of Lubbock, Texas, as half of the store’s two-design Texas Fractional Rounds series. It is a divisible round, scored down the center of the reverse so it can be snapped into two half-ounce pieces, each struck with its own weight and fineness. Its companion in the series is the [2015 Cash For Gold Jewelers God’s Country Silver Round]([add God’s Country entry URL]), which divides into four quarter-ounce segments.

The obverse speaks to West Texas in more than one way. A cowboy in a wide-brimmed hat and neckerchief, with a full handlebar mustache, stands with his arms crossed over his chest, a revolver in each hand with the barrels pointed skyward. Above him runs the legend “GUNS UP AMERICA,” and below, the national motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” which Congress adopted as the official motto of the United States on July 30, 1956. For a round issued from Lubbock, the title carries local weight. “Guns Up” is the hand-sign greeting of Texas Tech University, created in 1971 by alumnus Glenn Dippel and his wife Roxie as a reply to the University of Texas “Hook ’em Horns,” and modeled on the raised pistols of the school’s mascot, Raider Red (Texas Tech Traditions). The round’s crossed-arms cowboy with two pistols raised reads naturally to a Lubbock audience, though no issuer statement connecting the design to Texas Tech has been located. The store’s initials, “CFG,” appear as a small signature in the lower field.

The reverse makes the round’s argument plainly. A vertical score line divides the face into two halves, each holding a long-barreled revolver standing muzzle-up, the pair mirrored across the split. The left half pairs its revolver with an outline of Texas and the legend “THE 2ND AMENDMENT”; the right half reads “YOUR RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS.” The Second Amendment, ratified on December 15, 1791 as part of the Bill of Rights, protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms, and the round sets that right alongside faith and Texas identity as the store’s three themes. As on the God’s Country round, the star on the Texas outline sits in West Texas at Lubbock rather than at Austin, marking the issuer’s home. Each half carries “1/2 Ounce .999 Pure Silver” along its rim, so either piece stands as bullion on its own once separated.

The round exists in two strikings: the 2015 proof-like original sold by Cash For Gold Jewelers, and a 2020 brilliant uncirculated restrike by Cut Saw Mint of Dallas, covered below.

2015 Proof-Like Original (Cash For Gold Jewelers)

The original striking has mirrored, reflective fields behind frosted devices, giving the cowboy and the revolvers strong contrast. Cash For Gold Jewelers sold it directly through its website, cfgjewelers.com, beginning in 2015, listing it among its best-selling products next to American Silver Eagles and Canadian Silver Maple Leafs. The store priced it live against the silver spot price, about fifty cents over its companion God’s Country round, so it sold as bullion at a fixed premium rather than as a collector piece. The store’s product pages remain archived through December 2016. Recorded sales of the proof-like original are few, which makes it the scarce striking today. Examples sold with the store’s promotional photos, its diamond logo, or a 2015 sale date can be placed in this striking with confidence.

2020 Cut Saw Mint BU Restrike

Beginning in 2020, Cut Saw Mint (Owned by Elemetal) of Dallas restruck the design in brilliant uncirculated finish, with satin, frosty fields in place of the original’s mirrors. The earliest recorded brilliant uncirculated sale dates to August 31, 2020. By January 2021, dealers were selling the restrike in tubes of twenty and in 100-coin lots under the Cut Saw Mint name, just as retail silver demand surged that winter, and Cut Saw featured the round as the lead image on its own website in June 2021. One dealer sold it as “Bear Arms America (Guns Up).” The restrike carries the same “CFG” signature as the original and far outnumbers it on the secondary market.

Finish alone is not a perfect guide to which striking a coin belongs to. Early strikes from freshly polished restrike dies can show prooflike fields, so a proof-like example sold after 2020 is not automatically a 2015 original. Provenance, such as the store’s packaging or a sale date before 2020, is the stronger evidence.

Cash For Gold Jewelers Guns Up America Silver Round Attribution

The round carries no struck date. The 2015 year rests on the issuer’s own storefront: an archived capture of cfgjewelers.com from October 24, 2015 lists “Guns Up America – 1 oz .999 Silver Round” for sale, and a capture from October 27, 2015 shows it in the store’s Texas Fractional Rounds category beside God’s Country. The earliest recorded secondary-market sale, on October 8, 2015, used the store’s own promotional images bearing its diamond logo. Issuer and distributor are Cash For Gold Jewelers, established by the storefront listings and by the “CFG” signature, which matches the store’s own abbreviation in its web domain.

No mark on the round identifies the manufacturer of the 2015 proof-like original. It is attributed to Elemetal of Dallas, which operated as Elemetal Mint after June 2015, because the same design was restruck in 2020 by Cut Saw Mint, the later manufacturing identity of the Elemetal organization. The attribution stands pending direct documentation from the issuer or the mint.

The brilliant uncirculated restrike is documented to Cut Saw Mint by the mint’s own website and by dealer sales under its name. Recorded sales show a gap between 2018 and 2020, separating the proof-like originals from the restrike. No evidence connects Cash For Gold Jewelers to the restrike, and whether the store commissioned it is not documented.
